<p>Within the first year of moving from a city to the suburbs, the participants in the studies gained, on average, 15 pounds. Within the first six to eight months of moving to a city from the suburbs,&nbsp;the subjects in the studies lost an average of 15 pounds</p>
<p>The main conclusion of the studies was as follows:</p>
<p>The subjects living in a city did more walking than the subjects living in the suburbs.  The city dwellers in the study tended to walk much more to go to wherever they were going, while people living in the suburbs tended to drive.  This accounted for the change of weight.</p>
<p> The professionals agree that if you want to lose weight, exercise will be a bigger factor than nutrition.  To give you an idea of how diet and exercise each affect weight loss, it has been said that it is 65% &#8211; 35% in favor of exercise.</p>
<p> Research shows that to lose weight you should do an exercise progam as well as a diet program.</p>

<p>It is not required to workout for hours for the purpose of weight loss. However, it is crucial that you do only THE workouts that help you burn fat and lose weight quickly! Strength training exercises are such workouts. You see, almost all of us are busy people, and as such, time is exceptionally precious to us. Out of the twenty-four hours we get in a day, we can probably afford to spend only about 30 minutes on exercises.</p>

<p>As such, we must make sure that each second of those precious thirty minutes are put to good use. In this article I will tell you about why strength training workouts are good for fast fat loss!</p>
<p>First of all, let me tell you how strength training workouts save you time. If you have ever indulged in cardiovascular activities such as walking, running, swimming, jogging, etc., you know only too well that they take a long time before providing you with the intended, lean body.</p>
<p>While it is true that there are certain cardios that take shorter time in providing the results than others, if you wish to lose weight in the shortest possible time, then doing intense or strength training workouts is the way to go!</p>
<p>While cardios need to be done for a minimum of 1 hour per day to get the expected fat loss benefits, you can spend as little as fifteen minutes on strength training and still lose almost the same amount of fat! Now, if that doesn&#8217;t interest you, I don&#8217;t know what else will!</p>
<p>Yet another but often overlooked benefit of strength training over cardio is that unlike cardio which helps you burn fat only during the workout session, strength training exercises not only burn fat during workout but also at rest! Imagine burning fat while watching your favorite television show! Well, that is possible only with strength training workouts!</p>
<p>Strength training can be done either with body weight resistance or with weights. While either method would help you burn lots of calories, I prefer working out with the help of weights!</p>
<p>Here is a tip: when doing strength training, do only those workouts which aims on large muscle groups. There are two reasons behind it. Firstly, large muscle groups usually influence the smaller muscle groups, which means that once you start working on the big muscles, the effects would automatically show on the smaller muscle groups!</p>
<p>Secondly, unlike small muscles groups that are weak and cannot grow, large muscle groups are not only strong but also have the potential to grow bigger and stronger! In effect, this means that the more you workout, the more muscle tissues would be added into these large muscle groups!</p>
<p>Now what are large muscle groups? Examples of large muscle groups are legs, chest, back, shoulders, etc. As for small muscle groups, there are too many of them to list here, but to give you an idea, your biceps is an example of small muscle group! You would notice that whenever you work on your back, the biceps would also start working!</p>

<p>The entire weight loss business is full of fads and new fads are popping up all of the time. The essential problem here is that too many individuals tend to sign up for the hottest diet fad without checking to see if it is safe or not. In general, people want a quick fix, so they want to lose weight quickly without putting in very much effort. I am always wary of the latest diet fad coming out and you should be too. A really popular weight loss fad these days is known as HCG which stands for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin. In this article, lets discuss HCG and determine its effectiveness and safety when used for losing weight.</p>

<p>First of all, many people mistakenly think that HCG is just another fancy designer drug. In fact, HCG is a hormone which occurs naturally in all of our bodies. When women are pregnant, they have a very large supply of this hormone. Because of this, when a woman takes a pregnancy test, if a certain concentration of HCG is found in the circulation, then the woman is considered positive for the test.</p>
<p>Kevin Trudeau was the person who popularized the use of HCG for dieting when he wrote and published a book on the subject. For your information, Kevin has spent a long time in jail because of several infractions on FTC guidelines.</p>
<p>In the book that Kevin Trudeau wrote, he makes the claim that HCG is a miracle supplement and in fact is the best one available. There is, however, no scientific research available which can support this claim. In fact, the various manufacturers who produce synthetic HCG will not even officially claim that there is a benefit to obese people. Basically, there are only a small amount of experts and doctors who insist that they have proof in the effectiveness of HCG for weight loss.</p>
<p>There have been many tests and studies conducted on HCG over the past 40 years. Now the thing is, these studies have not come up with any definitive proof as to the effectiveness of HCG with weight loss. The question is then, how can a select few doctors and experts claim that it is effective?</p>
<p>For your information, when a doctor allows you to try an HCG treatment, they will also tell you to go on a low calorie diet. Now a low calorie diet on its own will cause you to lose weight. So the question is, if you combine HCG supplements and a diet low in calories, how can you tell which of the 2 strategies is causing the weight loss?</p>
<p>HCG was banned quite a while ago in the United States. There are 2 options available to you if you want to purchase HCG. You can either try to get it from another country or it can be bought on the black market. Either scenario can end up being very expensive.</p>
<p>Here is my advice: Dont use HCG until the safety and effectiveness are fully established. The tried and true method of eating healthy food and exercising is the way to go. Listen, if you want to lose weight then that means that you want to become healthier, so why potentially poison yourself with a little known about pill? Remember too that you dont need to starve yourself. Just stick to healthy food, drink plenty of water, exercise and minimize your intake of junk food. <p>It&#8217;s hard to lose weight if your &quot;sweet tooth&quot; is in control of what you eat. I think this may sound familiar to you: I ate well all day and then right after dinner I got an uncontrollable urge to eat a bowl of ice cream. I have good news for you, while this urge to eat ice cream is a tough habit to beat, it is not impossible.</p>

<p>The big problem with sugar is that the more you eat it, the more you want it. You should also consider that sugar is not always only in the most obvious foods. That white bread you had for lunch good be the cause of your mid-day craving for a candy bar. The pasta you have for dinner could also be to blame. Every time you give into a craving, you contribute to the habit. You can only temporarily quiet your sugar animal by caving in to your cravings. It will always want more.</p>
<p>There is not just one single way of solving the problem of the sweet tooth. You just must be aware of the effects of sabotaging yourself by eating too many sweets. There may be times when you think you want to eat something sweet but in actuality you don&#8217;t really want it. How many times have you indulged in sweets only to eat so much that you stop enjoying it? Chances are you could cut back with just a few tastes until you are satisfied. If you tell yourself &quot;no, you can never have sugar&quot; then you will only want sugar. You have to change your mindset to &quot;I can have sugar, but I don&#8217;t want it right now&quot; once you allow yourself to have it you are much less likely to want it.</p>
<p>Each time that you start a new diet you are excited and dedicated to losing weight. You&#8217;re going to be strict this time and make it through to the finish line. Then, as soon as it starts and you&#8217;re momentum is going, you want sugar right this second! You cave and then get derailed. And the cycle begins. Next time, instead of feeling guilty for an occasional small treat, learn to savor the experience and you will find that just a few bites or even half of what you normally would want is all you need.</p>
<p>Typically cravings only last for a couple of minutes so all you have to do is wait it out. Sometimes you will have a quick craving right after eating. You should always give yourself 15 minutes before you eat anything more after a meal because it takes that long for your body to feel full. Every craving that you learn to ignore you will become stronger, instead of caving every time you will learn that they lessen over time.</p>
<p>Learn to talk yourself or distract yourself out of a craving. Every time you want something sweet just tell yourself &quot;I realize that this is my body&#8217;s reaction to stress or what I just ate and it will pass, I don&#8217;t really want something sweet&quot; and reward yourself everyday for not eating a sugary treat. You could give yourself a dollar a day and use that money to treat yourself with a new outfit or a pedicure at the end of the month. Save your sweet indulgences to no more than once a week and you will find that you are less likely to have cravings.</p>

<p>Wouldn&#8217;t it be great if losing weight was as simple as just wanting it to &quot;happen&quot;? Unfortunately it&#8217;s not as simple as wanting it to happen. If you want to maintain a healthy weight, you need do a bit more than just want it. You must want it bad enough to do something about it. Throughout the years I have had many conversations with people about hypnotherapy and how it can help people. Since many people associate hypnotherapy with losing weight and smoking, these conversations produce some very interesting insights.</p>
<p><span id="more-84"></span></p>
<p>For example, some people say to me: &quot;Oh Sonia, believe me; I really WANT to lose this weight&#0133; I have tried absolutely everything in the past&quot;. It is usually at this point the &quot;buts&quot; come into the conversation. &quot;But&quot; language is insidious; it says &quot;I do not have a choice. I am not in control&quot;. When you use &quot;but&quot; language, you are giving away all of your personal power. So how do you know when you have a case of the &quot;buts&quot;? Here are some really common signs:</p>
<ul>
<li>&quot;I want to lose weight but I have no willpower&quot;;</li>
<li>&quot;I want to lose weight but I don&#8217;t have time to exercise&quot;;</li>
<li>&quot;I want to lose weight but I can&#8217;t seem to walk past the chocolate aisle in the supermarket&quot;;</li>
</ul>
<p>&#0133;and so the list goes on. And no, I don&#8217;t always jump to the conclusion that these &quot;buts&quot; are just excuses. I genuinely believe that the people I talk to actually feel they are powerless. I also know something that these people probably don&#8217;t know: they are slaves to their own negative beliefs. That is, they have not yet been show how to use their minds to create what they want. They continue to focus on what they don&#8217;t want and as a result, they get more of the same; more disempowerment; more disappointment; more &quot;blah&quot;.</p>
<p>But what they don&#8217;t know is that it doesn&#8217;t have to be that way. Do YOU have a case of the &quot;buts&quot;? If so, write them down on a piece of paper. This is probably the most constructive thing you could do for yourself, because as you do this, you will reveal to yourself your own negative beliefs; that is the beliefs that have created your current circumstances; the beliefs that have created your current weight!</p>
<p>It is only necessary to want to do something and to know how to do it in order to be able to do it. So maintaining a healthy weight is about wanting it badly enough; wanting it enough to make time for physical exercise; wanting it enough to pass by the chocolate aisle at the supermarket. If you are having trouble losing weight, ask yourself: &quot;How badly do I want this?&quot; Perhaps you don&#8217;t really want it at all. Perhaps someone else wants it for you and you don&#8217;t really want it yourself. Or maybe you&#8217;re so terrified of failing you simply can&#8217;t get started.</p>
<p>But getting started so very important! On the other hand if doing it all at once is too overwhelming for you, why not start small? Take an apple into work for morning tea rather than buying a donut. Have a skinny cappuccino instead of a full-fat one. Every little bit counts. &quot;Anna&quot; did exactly this. She was so morbidly obese that making huge changes was far to overwhelming for her. So she started small. She had half a donut with morning tea instead of a whole donut. She ate fresh vegetables with her meal instead of rice or pasta. That way, she didn&#8217;t feel as though she was depriving herself; and yes, she DID lose weight!</p>
<p>One of my clients said to me: &quot;Sonia, I have been skinny all my life. I just want to lose a couple of kilos off my stomach. Why is this so difficult for me this time?&quot; After we reviewed his existing diet we found lots of little ways for him to cut down on his calorie intake. We started off with the cups of coffee. When we added it up we discovered that &quot;Laurie&quot; was consuming 6 cups of coffee each day, each with a whopping 3 teaspoons of sugar!!! Can you imagine how thrilled he was to find that by making a few adjustments here and there he was able to shift the weight within a month despite having tried and failed for the past two years? &quot;Laurie&quot; took control, and he did it by starting small.</p>
<p>If you want to lose weight and keep it off, start small and build up your &quot;success muscles&quot;. The most important thing is to do something different; anything different. <p>Some people who are looking to lose weight simply never achieve their goal but it&#8217;s not due to their lack of motivation or even the amount of work they do, they simply get lost in the process. What I mean is, there are so many directions that a fat loss program can take it can be simply overwhelming at times. Deciding where you are at any time during your program and making the changes necessary to increase your results, if not organized properly, can lead to failure. One of the best ways to stay on track and properly motivated is to set short-term goals.</p>

<p>Short-term goals allow you to achieve success in smaller bites which added up over time leads to large success. These smaller goals help you to see your progress more easily and can keep your motivational mindset at a very high level at all times. Let&#8217;s look at a couple of short-term goals you may use in your own fat loss program:</p>
<h4>Eating Habit Goals</h4>
<p>Most people are going to have to dramatically change the way they eat if they want to experience dramatic fat loss. Changing everything all at once can be difficult, however. A good idea is to set a few short-term goals to help you reach your target. These goals might include eating one less snack per week or maybe cutting your overall calories by 5% over the course of a month. These goals, when looked at individually, look small but on a day to day and week by week basis they can make a big difference in the fat loss results you achieve.</p>
<p>Exercise Program Goals-here is another area where people get overwhelmed. They want to jump in and begin an incredibly rigorous exercise program but the key is really starting slow. If you have been sedentary for a period of time then running 5 miles and hitting the gym for an hour is not a wise decision. Start slow, maybe walking for 10 to 20 minutes per day and build up the amount of work you do over time. It should only take you about a month or so to get your health and conditioning to a point where you might not be able to do a really intense workout, but if you jump in too fast, you run the risk getting hurt or simply getting burned out too early into your program.</p>
<h4>Motivational Mindset Goals</h4>
<p>It is important to adopt the right mindset when working to achieve significant fat loss goals. Because there are many books, CDs and DVDs on the market to help achieve these motivational mindsets, a short-term goal may be to review one of these products on a weekly or monthly basis. Feeding your mind with a constant supply of positive mental attitude type training will go a long way over time to support your fat loss goals.</p>
<h4>Weight Loss Goals</h4>
<p>Want to lose 10 pounds per week? This probably is not a good idea for the majority of people to try this strategy. Fat loss is best achieved in small amounts over time. If you expect to lose a tremendous amount of weight very quickly, first of all, you could get sick because this is not healthy, and second of all you could become discouraged because this is also very hard to do. Setting small goals such as half to one pound or so per week of weight loss are more easily achieved and are healthier for your body.</p>
<p>Working to achieve any goal can be much easier and more successful if broken down into small short-term goals like the ones mentioned above. Organize your routines on a daily and weekly basis and track your results so that you are continually making progress toward your goal. With the right mindset and the right achievable short-term goals, your result will be long term fat loss success.</p>

<p>Anything you can measure, you can control. Weight loss and fat loss are all about control. People who are fat didn&#8217;t set a goal to become fat. They didn&#8217;t measure their daily fat growth. Their eating got out of hand in relation to their activity level, and they gradually put on 20, 30, 40, even 50 pounds or more.</p>

<p>If you are one of those people, and you now want to lose that weight, you can do it easily enough, but you&#8217;re going to have to get control, and you&#8217;re going to do that by measuring the things you do.</p>
<p>I recommend you buy a couple of items.</p>
<p>First, you need scales that measure your weight, body fat, and hydration level. You will constantly measure these three as you lose weight. Although a few other brands give these measurements, I believe Tanita is the best. You can find them online or at many major retail stores.</p>
<p>Second, you need to purchase or have access to any type of exercise equipment that measures the calories and fat calories you burn. Go online to find the normal amount of calories you burn each day based on your sex, weight, height, and activity level. You need exercise equipment to measure how many more calories you&#8217;re burning each day above that norm.</p>
<p>You also need a scale that measures the weight of different types of food you eat. I found these scales particularly helpful when I tried to ration myself to three ounces of meat or one to two ounces of cereal or chips. You can&#8217;t guess at the amounts you&#8217;re eating because you will always assume you&#8217;re eating less than you actually are eating.</p>
<p>With these three items you&#8217;ll be able to measure the amount of calories going into your body, the number of calories you&#8217;re burning each day, and the amount of weight and fat you&#8217;re losing each day. You&#8217;ll also check your hydration level to make sure you&#8217;re not just losing water weight, and you&#8217;ll probably want to use a tape measure to take your chest, waist, and hip measurements.</p>
<p>Why will all this measurement help you lose weight? It&#8217;s simple. A pound of fat equals about 3,500 calories. If you burn 500 calories per day more than you eat, you&#8217;ll lose a pound each week. Burn an extra 1,000 calories per day, and you&#8217;ll lose a couple of pounds per week.</p>
<p>Want to lose even more quickly? Eat even fewer calories per day. Burn more calories per day on your exercise equipment. It&#8217;s simple enough, but you have to make a commitment to measure all calories eaten and all calories burned. You have to get in control of your weight loss.</p>
<p>You really can control anything you can measure. I personally lost forty pounds in sixty days. One chief component of this dramatic loss was measurement. I weighed three or four times every day. I always tried to weigh the same or less each evening than I did that morning. That virtually guaranteed that I would weigh from 1/2 to one pound less every morning than I did the previous morning.</p>
<p>You can&#8217;t weigh once each week and be guaranteed to consistently lose weight. You have to measure the calories going in, measure the calories you&#8217;re burning, and measure that weight loss and fat loss every day.</p>
<p>You can control anything you can measure &#8211; and that includes your weight.</p>
